Father's Day

Father’s Day, one of the special days in a year is celebrated worldwide to recognize the contribution that fathers and father figures make to the lives of their children. This day celebrates fatherhood and male parenting.  Although it is celebrated on a variety of dates worldwide, many countries observe this day on the third Sunday in June. In 2015 Nepal will celebrate Father's Day on 13 September 2015, third Sunday of September. The idea of a special day to honor fathers and celebrate fatherhood was introduced from the United States. In United States a woman called Sonora Smart Dodd was inspired by the American Mother's Day celebrations to plan a day to honor fathers. In the USA, Father's Day has been celebrated in June since 1910.The celebrations in the United Kingdom and other countries are thought to have been inspired by the American custom of Father's Day. This is in contrast to Mother's Day, which has a very different history in the United States and the United Kingdom.

My father’s name is Gelbu Tsheri Sherpa. He is a Trekking Guide and a mountaineer. He is 48 years old. He is big and has black complexion. He is funny, friendly and kind. He loves travelling to places specially places with natural beauty and holy places with family and relatives together. In food, he likes to have Thakali Set, Japanese and Sea food. He loves to drink coffee and milk tea. He is a very good educator, communicator, guide, adviser, social worker and cook. He loves to joke and smile. He is a very hard working and independent person.

A true father is always there. He is there to spill tears of happiness when his eyes fall upon his infant daughter. He is there with arms to catch her when she takes her first steps or stumbles. He is there to teach her at the youngest age, even though she might not understand half of it. He is there to help her color inside the lines, make her grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup, and tie her shoes. He is there to hug her and kiss her on her first days of school. He is there to teach her and tease her and laugh with her. He is always there to embarrass her, but that’s part of life. He is there to lecture her, prepare her for school. He is there to approve, disapprove, accept and forgive. He is there to give her a big bundle of flowers when she graduates, to smile when her name is called and feel proud. He is there to embrace her and kiss her before she goes to live and learn a thousand miles away. He is there to watch her grow as the lines on his face grow. He is there to welcome her home, always, and let her hug him and smell the smell she remembers from childhood, the warm, protecting, comforting smell of dad. But most of all, he is always there to love her and she is always there to love him back.

Wishing all the fathers and father figures
 (father, step-father, father-in-law and grandfather)

A   Happy Father's Day
